There are actually only 4 click point on the front button area, but the button you select depends on where your finger is on the touch surface. The Home button and call button as well as the left D-pad arrow key are all the same button. The individual functions are differentiated from where you touch the touch-sensitive area.
Yes you can, you can test it by going to a text message (threaded) and in a circular motion go around the d-pad (clockwise) and your text will increase in size. This is also useful when your photo album, same motion.

I never had a problem with the left and right keys once EVER.

ya i agree, i jsut got this phone for my birthday, its a great phone, but the left and right keys dont really work on the d pad

Can't you also rotate your finger in a circular motion around the D-Pad like the iPod? I believe you can but I never seen it.
