Questa è storia... e che storia!! Che interpreti e che voci!! E' sempre un'emozione sentirli, e vederli anche sul palcoscenico ancora di più! Peccato non ci siano tante registrazioni con loro, e menomale però che la VAI ha rieditato quella splendida tournée del 1961... Rigoletto, Aida con Tucci Del Monaco e Simionato, Andrea Chenier con Protti Del Monaco e Tebaldi e gli indimenticabili e unici Pagliacci con Protti Del Monaco e la Tucci!! Che Tournée e che voci!!!

Some critics argued during Protti's career that his voice and artistry were second-rate -- that he was merely "good enough." Well, Protti could not compete with Merrill, Warren or MacNeil for vocal splendor, nor did his acting match Gobbi's. But given the perspective provided by the intervening years and the trend toward Verdian diminuition (Hampson as Simone?!), we'd certainly welcome a Verdi baritone of Protti's caliber today --
