@MeAgainstTheRadio True. but you Know not every rapper who was rapping the gangsta shit was fake. Some of these dudes.. were really living that life or previously were living a gangster life,struggling,drug dealing and either growing real Rough with no father.
Sometimes i could tell real from the fake just by their lyrics.. like i could feel it sometimes like damm this ani't a joke lol
Yeah image mattered to def. If you were from a rich ass town and acted ghetto you wouldn't get accepted into the "ghetto" scene. You see back in the 90s, people were either Gangsta rappers, East Coast rappers, or something else.
Nowadays it actually got better imo and rap is now easier to find online.
I wish i can explain this all but i cant cuz you cant post long ass comments on youtube.
@MeAgainstTheRadio nah it was about lyrics. . now it about image. everyone need to have a Gimmick. but i get what your saying because if nas was white he would laughed at. hmm this is a good topic

@supermoodmusic
No. Back in the day it was your image, not your lyrics.
If Nas was a white kid from an all white school he would be laughed at in the 90s
