  • Ha-Ha-Ha, Cromwell must be the only character in British History, to this very day, who is hated equally, by the English, the Irish, and the Scots.

  • [2] The actions of Cromwell in Ireland were harsh, by any standards, but one must see the issue in context with the world at the time. The Catholic powers of the day had it coming after a century of open war against any and all they deemed a protestant. The stakes were simply too high to take risks. I suppose it's a little easier to turn to cruelty when the result of failure is being burned alive. I would argue, in that regard, Cromwell might be considered a moderate.

  • @Jdjohnjd Real history documentary? Schama is a renowned historian and you are some guy with a Youtube account. So I think his opinion has a place.

  • Does anyone know how the music played throughout this documentary is called? Is it baroque?

  • @Jdjohnjd Read Tom Reilly's book, An honourable enemy if you want the other point of view. Also I would say O Siochru is worse overall for his slagging off of Cromwell, Schama just says over the top ear-catching accusations to add to the drama, he is sympathetic in some senses....

  • This documentary is so biased against Cromwell. Its like watching X Factor

I thought is was supposed to be a history documentary. Its more like propaganda.

Sponsered by supporters of His Majesties ass.

    Quote by the presenter

"No its not the confession of a homicidal manic (Cromwell), but it is the confession of a narrow minded pig headed protestant bigot and imperialist bigot"

This kind of opinion has no place in a real history documentary.

  • The comments at 6:14 are the exact reasons Cromwell was a great leader and revolutionary. I love it. Pigheaded, bigoted and other adjective are what America and England needs against the Socialist and Muslims that dominate our nations.

  • @MrMostevilgenius Fair enough

  • Cromwell considered a moderate, what are you on about. He was a tyrant. What the English did in Ireland will never be forgotten. Prosecution of any religion is wrong. I know and respect many protestants but the fact is it is a religion that was made up by power hungry man. Getting back to the point Cromwell's statue should be taken down. The Glorious revolution is a complete lie, there was plenty of bloodshed.

  • @locheelad2 yup... that makes him politician alright :3

  • @ExquisiteDoom I wholeheartedly agree with you on heads of state being maniacs, I suppose it somewhat comes with the job. On Cromwell though, I feel he's being portrayed too often [and I agree this documentary is amongst the 'kinder' ones] as nothing but a religious madman. True, by our present-day standards he would be dragged in front of the international court and sentenced to life-long imprisonment without a doubt. But... He was a child of his time, and those times were rather different [1]
