Robert A. Pape, an expert on the psychology of terrorists, spoke at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 17, in the Mitchell Auditorium on The College of St. Scholastica campus. The title of his discussion is "Dying to Drive Foreigners Out." The public is welcome; there is no charge for the event.

Pape's lecture is part of a series called "Terrorism and Human Rights," sponsored by the Alworth Center for the Study of Peace and Justice at St. Scholastica. The series explores several sides to the issue of terrorism as terrorist actions and threats increase all over the world.

Pape is a professor of political science at the University of Chicago specializing in international security affairs. He has published a number of books on the topic, including his most recent, "Dying to Win: The Strategic Logic of Suicide Terrorism."

His commentary on international security policy has appeared in the New York Times, Washington Post, New Republic, Boston Globe, Los Angeles Times, and Bulletin of Atomic Scientists, as well as on "Nightline," ABC News, CBS News, CNN, Fox News, and National Public Radio.

An authority on the psychology of terrorists, Pape focuses his current work on the causes of suicide terrorism as well as on the politics of unipolarity.

The Alworth Center for the Study of Peace and Justice seeks to bridge social and political barriers to bring together people of all ages and philosophies to work toward the common goals of peace and justice. The public is invited to participate in Center activities and to utilize the resource center.
