try to put a resistor and help stop shake shake servo
-
check if servo internal potentiometer is messed

Check the power supply circuit on your breadboard. AC is on DC. Works a first then if you are using a regulator 7805 or 7812 it is probably getting hot and failing.

Stepper motor is better???
Common stepper motor is open loop ??? Servo is powerful and close loop.

Try using stepper motors they are a bit tricky, but once you understand them they are very easy to control.

There is something wrong with your program, or circuit. Check it out using a oscilliscope and the problem should be easy to fix.

I have already dealed with this. One problem was with circuit - path of ground was interrupted in one place, there was problem also in readings from potentiometer. But I also have found some bugs in winavr compiler which was hard to analyse.
Now it works perfectly - as it can on servo motor which was not the best choice. If I would start from the beggining I would have though about DC motor.
