It's true that most Wing Chun guys suck. But that's because there are so many shit instructors who themselves don't even understand the art. They get so obsessed with chasing hands that they forget that the goal is to attack. Trapping is just one technique used to help you attack, but it's not the main goal in Wing Chun.

@MyJibJib Interesting concept. I learned that "your heart has to become a demon when fighting." But training and fighting are too different things. By now I try to understand the Taekkyon philosophy of fighting. It seems more harmonious.

@WTKSB1987 "Treat thy enemy as you would like to be treated". You should always hold back a little, even if you're being beaten. If you don't you would kill the person you're sparring, or seriously hurt them. A coward will seriously hurt someone to avoid themselves getting hurt just a little (even if it's just their pride). It takes skill to beat a person without hurting them. If you just go all at it, you're just a brut and don't deserve to learn Wing Chun.

@TheEupheme those things are hollow. whats the point of it. it is just a pissing contest. we get certificates yes no belts. and yes i agree most fights can be avoided with ease of words. but there is always the times when words fail. tournaments bound you up in rules slow you down make you think straegize when you fight. if you remember the fight it wasnt a real fight. thinking is to slow. im not hard im soft and that is my strength it makes me pliable to the moment "my enemy is my technique"

@WTKSB1987 Either you enter prize fights and earn a belt plus a certificate rewarded for years of training. Seems to me like you have nothing more to show for you're training than an emptyy wallet and keyboard warrior skills. With a voice of reason you can avoid most fights on the street anyway, martial arts is to enjoy and climb the ladder until you prove yourself against other martial artists in turnaments, all you do is talk shit on here on how hard you are and have nothing to show for it.
