Latin text:
Ecce Virgo concipiet et pariet filium: et vocabitur nomen ejus Emmanuel, alleluia.
Translation:
Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bring forth a son: and His name shall be called Emmanuel. Alleluia.
Published in 1605 in the first of two volumes known as Gradualia, which was a compilation of Byrd's motets for the major feasts.
This is a communion motet for the Votive Mass of the Blessed Virgin during Advent, for communion the 4th Sunday of Advent, and for the Annunciation.
