At Denison University, a cappella rocks.
The Denison Hilltoppers, a men's group, was founded more than three decades ago by a group of friends who took delight in serenading campus co-eds. Soon thereafter, the women raised their unaccompanied voices as Ladies' Night Out. In 2006, the soulful sounds of Tehillah grew out of Gospel traditions. And in 2009, Denison's more theatrical music talents emerged in the singing group calling itself DUWop.
On March 30, 2009, for the first time in college history, all four groups came together to perform for a standing-room-only crowd in Herrick Auditorium. This ground-breaking event was organized by Charisse Mandimika '09, a founding member of Tehillah from Harare, Zimbabwe, along with leaders from the other student singing groups.
In these videos, you'll see excerpts of that special evening and hear stories about the groups and traditions that fill "the Hill" with song.
