A pod of bottle nose dolphin playing all around the boat in Hudson Canyon, 90 miles off New Jersey.
Towards the end of the video, you can see one "playing" with the spreader bar and swimming upside down underneath the lures in our spread.
This was one bunch of happy dolphins. We passed about 10 pods like this early in the morning while trolling for tuna.

  • haha they are pretty smart... but there is the occasional one that actually feels like trying it out... my friend anthony on the 60 viking called cathys choice had one this past summer that he fought for quite a few hours and brought him in the tuna door and took the hook out of its mouth and released it...his charter has pictures of it too.

  • I would really like to see the pictures.

  • you guys are prettydamn lucky he didnt grab that spreader bar...youwould have been fighting that thing for hours.... it happened to my buddy out o shinnecock

  • Yeah right! We were talking about how smart they are. He flicked it out of the water with his nose, but managed NOT to get hooked.

We're thinking they were all laughing at us dragging those stupid plastic things behind the boat! hahahaha

  • Bottle nose dolphins in the canyons? That's kinda hard to believe since they're shallow water species. Maybe Common Dolphins...

  • WOW! How cool was that!?
