Never ever try to emulate the tape saturation effect with plug ins, to me it just sounds plain FAKE. And it's just worth it to get the real thing, I think.

yes, you should record however you like. but this video was just shot for fun, not to represent the actual quality of the analog recording.

Thanks!

@farsoh023 lol generic comment. the ironic thing is that a computer was used to capture this, and the effect was captured just fine, even at low quality. therefore you shouldn't 'stick to tape'. record onto tape then into your daw

No computers were used during the tracking or mixing of this. My best advise is if you want an analog sound, stick to tape.

Could I achieve the same effect with a hifi cassette recorder... with two tracks I guess?
Could I run the whole mix in it?
If I record in my DAW first, then in tape, and then record to the DAW from the tape, won't that just ruin my tape effect?
3 years on this song still moves me man.

Here's an mp3 of it

it was recorded and mixed on analog. transferred to digital for mp3.

I love the sound of Tape through a 50 cent camera mic. Thats like trying to demonstrate an HD quality picture on a Cell Phone.

Not really the intention here, this was just shot for fun.
