"Ahh! Nick! You're the best! What time's my flight?" I questioned, checking the clock that read 9:00 p.m. "It's at 10:30. Are you able to get there in time? Packed and what not?" he asked, controlling his excitement much better than me. "Yeah. I'll have to walk but it's not that far. My mom didn't b other to bring me any of my stuff so I don't have to worry about packing." I said, out of breath from talking so fast. "Perfect. Kevin's going to drive me to Milwaukee. We'll pick you up at the airport. Geez. We've been away from each other for so long. I'm beyond excited to see you." he said, the happiest I'd heard him in a long time. "That sounds perfect. I'm going to start walking before one of my parents shows up unexpectedly. I'll call you when I'm off the plane I'll miss you Nick." I said, hanging up without a response. I was too excited to think straight.
[On the plane]
It took awhile, but I finally got my ticket. We just took off. Who knew how long it was going to be. I listened to music, texted people, eveerything imagineable. Finally, after several hours, we were landing in Milwaukee. A rush of excitement washed over me. I'd never been so excited in my life. I couldn't believe how much I'd missed Nick the past few months. I walked into the airport, searching for two sets of curls. I couldn't find them. I had just texted Nick when the plane had landed. He told me he was here. I didn't understand. My thoughts were interrupted by a warm pair of somewhat unfamiliar hands on my waist. I spun around, becoming face to face with Nick. We both smiled at each other before he engulfed me in a warm hug. Oh how i'd missed this boy so much. I pulled away from him, placing my hands on both of his cheeks, pulling him in for a kiss. It felt so good. Much better than I'd remembered it. We pulled away and hugged again.
"Hey! Where's my hug?" Kevin asked, coming up behind Nick. "Kevin!" I yelled, letting go of Nick, running over to Kevin. He also gave me a very large hug. "How've you been?" he asked, loosening his grip so he could look me in the eyes. "Horrible. I've had nothing to do for the past 3 months. It was torture." I explained, pulling Nick to my side. "So you're four months along now aren't you?" Kevin asked, looking down at my oddly flat stomach. "Uhh...yeah. Shouldn't I be showing by now? At least a little bit?" I questioned, putting my hands on my stomach. "Have you been to the doctor at all?" Nick asked, looking concerned. "No. I had no idea where one was. My parents wouldn't tell me or take me." I said, feeling extremely worried. "Come on Josie. We gotta get you to a hospital." Kevin said, grabbing my hand.
I grabbed Nick's hand as well and followed behind Kevin. We got in his car as he quickly drove out of the airport. I sat in the backseat with Nick. Holding his hand the entire way. We arrived at the hospital about two hours later. Kevin thought it was best if we were as close to home as possible. Even though my doctor wouldn't be there, that's what Kevin suggested. They walked on either side of me as we went up to the reception desk.
"Can we get her an ultra sound? Please?" Kevin asked, almost sounding impatient. "Sure, sure." the woman said, dialing a number on the phone in front of her. A nurse came through the doors with a clipboard. "Josie Lehr?" she asked, walking over to us. We were the only ones there. She led me to a small room and had me lay on the bed. Kevin had to wait outside, but I couldn't let go of Nick's hand, he was sitting on a chair next to me. "How far along are you?" she asked, lifting up my shirt. "About 4 months." I replied, squeezing Nick's hand. "Oh." she said, observing my pale stomach. "Well. Your stomach is very flat. You should be showing by now. Lets see what's going on here." she said as she squirted gel on my stomach. I laid there, waiting impatiently for some feedback as she stared at the monitor.
