From the December issue of Guitar One, Paul explains his crazy idea to play an E minor arpeggio in 3 octaves, eventually leading to his idea to retune the 2nd neck on his double-neck.

Enjoy.

  • The reason because its OK its because you are Paul modafukin Gilbert

  • "it's okay" gatdam. lol

  • Paul Gilbert mocks your puny 6 string sweep arpeggios.

  • @than0902

I've seen him play that lick on a seven string on which he tuned the top three strings in octaves. (This is basically what he did when he re-tuned in the video) He then left the bottom four strings in their normal tuning to play the rest of the song. So I think that he just put that 3 string octave tuning on its own neck (without the other strings) and kept a regular tuning on the bottom neck. (This way he can play the arpeggio without having to string skip too.)

  • @ThunderhorseEX unless you dont fear death....then go ahead....

  • The reason its OK is because you're fucking Paul Gilbert!

  • "Oh i'm just Paul Gilbert the man who ascended beyond the need for anything beyond 3 strings on a guitar, Oh! You play a 7 string Psssshhh i say 4 too many, and you play with 6 strings you say? You really are a barbarian."

  • ''Its a difficult lick for sure''

    *Rips it off like nothing*

  • just tuned a string in 4 seconds like a boss

  • what is the tuning he is talking about so its a "three string" as he says?
