  • Part of training him to obey involves establishing dominance by not allowing him on the sofa unless we are on the sofa. i.e. it's our toy, not his, which we may or may not share with him.

  • Fret not, he is treated quite royally. The reason he is not allowed on the bed is because the bed is white and his paws very often are not. For safety's sake, he has been taught to Wait when we're at the door, rather than bolt through it and into the street, as was his inclination.

  • We do think of him as part of the family, just not quite an adult, as he is only one year old. He gets plenty of social time in the park, long walks and our vet reports he is in perfect health. Nonetheless, I appreciate your concern and thank you for it.

  • well, I hope your listens a little better than Oscar. He is SO independent. We don't allow him on the bed or sofa, and he has to sit before going outside or crossing a street, and he knows commands like Lie Down, and Shake Hands, and Roll Over, but does he come back when called??? Never. So he is always on a leash in public, unless he's in a fenced-in area. He's lucky he's so cute...

  • my cairn does that same thing...exept she falls asleep and starts woofing slightly...great dogs :D

  • Why isn't he allowed on the bed or the sofa?

This breed does not shed. Dogs are part of the family. I don't understand people like you who treat dogs so poorly.

    It's sad really.
