Ali vs. Frazier. Holyfield vs. Tyson. Those rivalries all pale in comparison to the FYBA grudge between Blade Braxton and "Bonecrusher" Lang Thomas. This video is from the first round of our first matchup was in May of 1992. This will probably be the only round I ever upload, because it wasn't my best day, and I ended up losing a six round decision. My excuses for losing...
1) I was 5'10", 135 lbs (I'm the one wearing black). Thomas was 6'2", 185 lbs. I was just too small.
2) I was horribly out of shape. I had hurt my shoulder a month earlier and hadn't worked-out at all.
3) Horrible game plan. My strategy was to cover up and let Thomas punch himself out. Didn't happen.
4) The whole world was against me. Vince Vyagra, the referee, didn't give me a knockdown when I floored Thomas in the first round. He called it a push. I call it bulls##t. Also, I had a horrible cornerman, Larry "The Devastator" Morford. Listen to the end of the round when I unleash F-bombs at him because he takes forever to put my stool in the ring.
Last but not least...
5) Most importantly, all the above excuses don't matter, because ten years later, when we both evenly weighed in at 230 lbs, it took me four minutes to TKO Thomas, avenge my earlier defeat and claim the FYBA title. 8)
At first I thought FYBA stood for "Fine Young Boxers Association". Will there be an FYBA title bout at the WrestleCrap circus?
