driver : Shinichiro SAKURAI (coach builder, father of NISSAN SKYLINE series)

PRINCE R380 RACING-CAR is powered by GR8 engine, to beat the porsche 904 & 906 at the Third Grand Prix of Japan.

GR8 engine was a straight-6 DOHC engine produced by PRINCE MOTOR COMPANY in 1965.
in 1968, NISSAN detuned it for novice drivers, and built S20 engine.
S20 was essentially the same as the GR8.

# S20 powered NISSAN Skyline GT-R (KPGC10 and KPGC110) and Fairlady Z432 models

  • That sound the motor made was like a symphony. Very emotional moment for those two guys. I bet their younger spirits were re-awakened by the sheer yet beautiful pitch of the S20 motor. Thanks for the upload.

  • @yellofury Yeah, I'm happy they finally brought them here. I know a lot of purists argue that the GTR is NOT "officially" a Skyline but I have to laugh at that. it makes me think of the phrase "A rose by any other name....." A Skyline by any other name is STILL a Skyline! LOL

  • @nightmathzombieethan Oh I hear you Im in Florida and I see more of the new GT-Rs but I am lucky enough to have family in Japan (and some wealthy enough to own a Skyline to boot)

Im just glad that some sort of GT-R is finally available here. Just think of it.. right now they are pretty pricey but 5-6 years down the road you may be able to afford one used.

It may still cost some bucks to maintain but you would be in the same boat if you got a used Porsche 911 or Ferrari. But now we have a chance

  • @yellofury Very cool. sadly I'm in the U.S. and aside from a few rare wealthy owners who found some legal loopholes, Skylines basically don't exist in this country as they are basically illegal to own here. Like I said, there are SOME loopholes but it's pretty much next to impossible to get one here.

  • @nightmathzombieethan They ultimately would have because rival companies like Mazda was coming out with racing versions of the Cosmo. My uncle has an older R32 Skyline GT-R which he has kept garaged to this day.

  • @NoizeRPMD I actually like the idea of the V35-36 and in terms of the Skyline as the sedan and coupe it is a very successful generation indeed. They sell a bunch of them here in the US as Infinitis. But making one into a hypercar like the GT-R would be missing a certain element of muscle in the bodywork in my opinion (and the opinion of most enthusiasts in Japan). I believe Nissan wanted to make the current GT-R something very special that keeps pace w/ exotic cars for less price

  • @yellofury what about the Skyline series (V35-V36)? the GT-R was once a variant that later becomes a separate entity but stems along with the Skyline in heritage.

  • @yellofury Ok, yeah wasn't Prince actually forced to sell itself to Nissan? Or Nissan was forced to buy it? Either way it's good to know that such a car was continued. I would give my left eye for an old 2000 GT-R! I wonder if Nissan ever would have gotten into sportscars if it weren't for that car, but on the other hand, If Prince had remained independent, I wonder what kind of cars they would be producing now... Thank you for the info!

  • @nightmathzombieethan This is from a documentary series in Japan called "Project-X" by the NHK public television channel. These 2 guys were part of the R380 development team. This was a historic car since this was in many ways the last hurrah for the Prince Motor Company which was about to be acquisitioned by Nissan Motors. All the racing development by Prince was subsequently used in future Nissan vehicles and Prince Motors was dissolved. One car from Prince remains to this day: The Nissan GT-R

  • The engine of R380 [tsu] [te] roller T70 was used, it seems, is, 360km comes out with your that shade of the ^^ and passes and rumor from w Fuji remains in all the Japanese GT records so the ^^ which is
