One of the best beam routines in the history of gymnastics!
-
Okay, so it ranks right up there. The execution and form during the interior of her routine is really impeccable. You won't find many other routines as nice as this one.

@gymnasticsloverxoxo leg seperation in the tuck position wasn't an enforced deduction in 1990 at ALL. The Romanians in particular were cowboying their tuck positions like CRAZY, WAY worse than here, and scoring 10s left and right. It's a travesty that this routine didn't earn a 10 in 1990.

@KimZfan Haha your right it is Kathy Johnson, same commentator as the 1991 worlds, where she also went crazy over yang bo. And lol =) but I think that is debatable.

A true artist!! None of the recent robotic Chinese girls could ever match her elegance. I'm afraid that these performances will never be seen again, the new code of points pushes gymnasts to be lifeless robots.

Stunning !

The Soviets, while setting the standard for the sport, did in fact make some technical sacrifices. Although they always made sure to have good form, they did not get as much height on leaps because they knew acrobatics were more important. Or in order to fit 3 layouts on beam you HAVE to undercut, but Bo always got equal height and distance on her layouts. The Soviets were fabulous, but in my opinion, Bo was just a little better. It's subjective though.

So well done - will gymnastics ever look like this again?

You are crazy. By that time THIS routinas WAS the best one during that era. I want to see you perform like that.

I agree.
Cathy Rigby is obsessed with her, it was incredibly done, definitely one of her best. But Cathy completely ignored the leg separation on the dismount and instead said the judges didn't know "didly" .

@gymnasticsloverxoxo Cathy Rigby is not the commentator in this video. It's Kathy Johnson. Also, Mary Lou did not step out of bounds on her second pass in the all around competition (I saw your comment about it). ;-)
