I'll admit. When I first went natural I was a little militant about the whole thing. "Other races don't put all these processes in their hair. Why should we." Then I began to understand that for a lot of black women it's about creativity and self expression. Haven't you ever wanted a crazy color or something totally different from what's expected? That's what I think a lot of the hair "thing" is about.

That happen with me too. I thought how my hair would look if I had highlights. My beautician glued some red hair strips on my head so that I experience having highlights for the first time before actually bleaching my hair. It was fun while it lasted, but realized I didn't want to go that route in coloring my hair. Still, the experience was fun.

I have to respectfully disagree. Are we saying that you can't be as creative with natural hair as you can with a perm?!?

Other races do stupid crap to their hair too. Don't be fooled. We're all insecure and damage ourselves to say "look at me! i'm cute!" It's not just a black thing. I'm Iranian and I can tell you that as women, Iranian females go to extremes: surgery, dyes, bleaches. The chemicals are the same. The race is just diff.
