I can't remember when, or where, I picked up the boxed set of original LPs on Cassiopee, but they alerted me to Eric Heidsieck's unassuming artistry and great musicianship. I love his Bach Partitas and the Faure Nocturnes, particularly.
One to add to the pantheon of truly great, yet hugely underrated, 20th. century pianists.
The whole series (4CD) is just a perfection. Again, this kind of sound, polyphony, and musicianship is hard to find nowadays. It seems that more and more, it's about speed and power, rather than art (just check the comments on Lisitsa to see what I'm talking about...). And this pianist can play as fast and powerful as her (check his Scarbo recording), but knows better
Thanks for us and music!
PS: don't get me wrong, Lisitsa impresses me and there are things I like. Just not the same league.
