PETA PSA

This is my PSA for PETA. I did it for my BCST 369 class, Timebased Typography 2, at the Savannah College of Art and Design as part of my MFA in Broadcast Design. Duff Yong, my Professor, suggested that I send it to PETA. They like it so much that they put it on their www.peta2.org website. They also posted it to YouTube and their MySpace account. This past spring they had me send them a master videotape so they can have it aired on TV stations across the country.
With that success, I entered it in a few contests. In 2006, I won a Bronze Telly Award, A gold Aurora award and a Gold award with MCAI (the organization for corporate communications). All of these awards were in the PSA category. I used a poster from the PETA website as my inspiration. I drew all of the images by hand and scanned them into Photoshop, added color and animated the PSA in AfterEffects. I edited and added sound with Premiere Pro. For the voice over, I used the voice of Eva Lin. She was an MA student in Animation at SCAD from Taiwan. She has a very high pitched voice, which is perfect for this spot. I appreciate her help on this project. She is now back in Taiwan, working as an animator.

Although I hate PETA and PETA supporters for several reasons, this isn't one of them. Finally, a PETA message that actually makes sense. Too bad this is the exception, not the rule.

O dear my silly ill-informed friend, the animals that Peta kill's are in perfect health, certainly not sick or dying.

Peta is to busy spending all its money on some stupid add campaigns that will be band anyway or defending some crim for fire bombing some university lab.

"O" Yes, Peta just kill these unwanted pets because they dont want to spend there money looking after them.

If man has any self-respect, no animal should be subject to malicious intent. Though, we cannot eat animals, for they are alive and have consciousness; so where are the defenders for the rights of fruits, vegetables, starches, etc.? We cannot deny they are very much alive and conscious, so we must resign ourselves to the rocks. Life feeds on life feeds on life....

I see no point why violence should not be used when it is necessary. I PROUDLY support the Animal Liberation Front and its efforts to save the helpless animals.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals provides aid and comfort for the Earth Liberation Front (ELF) and the Animal Liberation Front (ALF). The two groups are responsible for more than 600 crimes since 1996, causing (by a very conservative FBI estimate) more than $43 million in damage. ALFs press office brags that in 2002, the two groups committed 100 illegal direct actions

All vets do too, because of the breeders, they just deal with the problems other cause.

Regardless I am not all for Peta, but vegans save many more animals from abuse and we have no good excuse to eat, wear or use animals.
