In general, the practice of praying contradicts the Christian belief that "God has a plan". If he has a plan, why would he change it? More specifically, the deacon's father-mother analogy for praying to Mary is horrible. This god is defined as all-knowing, all-loving and all-merciful, but Mary is gonna make this god see the situation from a different perspective (contradicts the all-knowing part) and is gonna soften him up to the idea (contradicts the all-loving, all-merciful part)? LOL.
