Played catch ups with Canadian (not USA as alerted to by myself in the intro piece with 1200 people and a pulsing sound-system distracting me) Dubstep young gun 'Datsik' during his visit to New Zealand 2010.
This interview was significantly cut by the editors at the music channel i was working for at the time and wound up very heavily angled towards conservative TV market in its flow with close to 13 minutes of banter being squashed down too just over 6. Some of the more 'fan' material is defiantly lost, my apologies.
I would love to host all of the footage Q&A here but it was not something i had access too.
For those interested, below is a copy of my original interview questions most of which didnt make this video which was the final cut for television.
___
DATSIK - Industrial sounding futuristic beats
So would we call you a Dubstep producer if we had to put it into a box?
Dubstep is becoming quite the buzz word of late, how long has Dubstep been big where your from?
Do people over 22 tend to get into it?
Are you seeing it feature at clubs overseas that have been known perhaps as like 'Electro' or House music bars?, is the acceptance of the pace and sound being assimilated freely?
Its kind of love hate here at present. I do a radio show etc and you get adamant fans, then you also get people who seem to really dislike it.
How long have you been djing / producing?
You have had multiple releases bumping the #1 spot on music sites like beatport.com and chemical-records, what is it about your music that you think had captured the attention of this generation and seen you above other producers ?
How long has your myspace been up for? half a mil views isnt doing to bad huh!
I liked your myspace description - Sounds like; Grimey industrial devious future ninja techbots wrapped in tinfoil and thrown down the stairs, only to be ran over by a steamroller and hung out to dry.
Do you know your myspace page music defaults to some American Rap Eastcoast slow Jam tune?
I noticed on a couple of your tracks some sneaky samples for example on Calypso, you have a sample from Iron Man 1 'your services are no longer required' and does Swagga feature a Jay-Z lick?, is this activity legit? how do you get away with it?
Do you have a favourite track of your own productions or a track with a cool story behind its inspiration/creation?
Who are some fellow musician / producers you recommend our viewers trainspot?
Have you heard of any Kiwi Dubstep producers? - if so, who, thoughts?
Which celebrity living or deceased would you enjoy spending 48 hours on desert island with?
What about female celebrity?
Whats your stance on random youtube users taking your music and posting it for public earshot? I noticed some dude on there with like almost 400,000 plays on your track Retreat. Good / Bad, grain of salt.
Is there anythign further you wish to convey to the viewers today that may prove of interest?
What website can people head along to ti hear you and find out more if interested?
Cool as, thanks also for your time.
