THE PANTY LINERS
Miles Gibson was born in Peckham, South London and became singersongwriter with the punk band Well-Oiled Dogs while he was still at school. After some limited success he was invited to become lead vocalist with The Panty Liners which featured Wayne Strutt on lead guitar, the drummer Eddie Perkins and Billy Grunter on bass. Spunky Wilson at Slingshot Records produced their first big album Pillow Biter which was quickly followed by Trouser Snake before the group disintegrated in a storm of drugs, violence and court appearances. Gibson wrote two of their greatest hits Ruby Fruit and Blue Vein Teaser. He survived the Seventies to become a successful novelist and has since written a string of popular teen romances under different names.
Trouser Snake was denied airtime by BBC Radio One and the album cover was withdrawn from record stores after hundreds of complaints. A censored cover was issued with a modesty sticker over the offending image and sales began to rocket. An attempt to fly a giant inflatable trouser snake from Westminster Bridge was abandoned after rain and high winds killed one of the riggers during its launch.
Its amazing that Miles Gibson survived the punk era when three of his band members died. Maybe because he could write the drugs didnt kill him. Wont be a reunion of the Panty Liners will there.
