O scale model train shelf layout. This is an updated video to show the following additions to my layout:

- added rope lighting behind the track
- added scale neon signs in the four corners
- upgraded the train to a smoother, larger one, with sound
- added "display" shelving for my extra train and cars
- connected all the controls to a wall-mounted, push-button switch plate

  • Nice setup....with the N&W ...Star.....H&C coffee sign are you located in Roanoke Va.???

  • @roanokebarry Thanks! Yep, Roanoke, VA.

  • What kind of train is talking in the background?

  • @SuperCatfishdude That's the "crew sounds" coming from the train. They were only supposed to play while the train was in neutral, but it must have been a little "confused" when I recorded this and they were randomly playing. :-) My updated video (N&W 611) shows a much nicer train with better sound.

  • @jpeades Oh, sorry. I have a newyork central 4-4-2 and it has the same "crew talk." Thanks for writing back.

  • @SuperCatfishdude LOL, the engine in this video is (or was) a NYC as well. I wanted only N&W stuff in my collection so I covered the "New York Central" lettering and replaced it with a "Norfolk & Western" decal. :-) Later on I got the N&W 611, which was the engine/set I had always wanted!

  • I always wanted a 611 but I never got one for my birthday or christmas. Good idea on changing the name. Now thats how to emprovise. :)

  • I love the switch that operates the train. excellent!

  • I was thinking of doing something similar, now I have seen this, its back to brain storming because I am not keen on that at all.

Thanks for sharing your video, it's been very helpful :-)
