Back yard Aquaponics System. Running a 330 gallon Tilapia fish tank and two 3'x4' grow beds using Hydroton as the media. It is a Flood and Drain system w/ 2" Bell Siphons.

  • this guy probbaly says UM uuuh UM uuuum uuum... 9000 fucking times. what an annoying video.

  • Nice system! Thanks for sharing!! For anyone out there, either experienced in aquaculture system construction / operation or, interested in learning the same while being part of a team of Eco-conscious people currently forming an intentional community in the western U.S.A. with the goal of creating open-source blueprints for a sustainable civilization: Search-out "One Community Ranch" to obtain all the details on our vision and how you may join our team with zero financial commitment.

  • so how much time did keeping a healthy system take? was it sustainable and are you still doing aquaponics?

  • I like the bell siphon design... nice and simple. I'll try the 1 inch to 1/2 reduction too.

  • The depth of the grow media needs to be a min of at least 250 mm. It needs the depth for the bacteria, fungi and all the other creatures to live and survive. However it is a great setup. Barry.

  • @MrMfloor Why do they?? As long as the water is clean and in this system it would be. It would not be a problem. Most fish die because people over feed them and pollute the water. Barry.

  • @EllinonEnosis Murry Hallam! HMMM.

  • As far as Murray Hallam's aquaponics DVD he says that duckweed needs quiet water and it does really bad growing in moving water. I suggest you try that ans see it for your self(after watching his DVD or do some research.) Great system though and enjoy your work :)

  • DO YOU EVER HAVE TO CLEAN THE BOTTOM OF THE FISH TANK?
