December 15, 2008-- This is a test run of a 4-inch hydraulic ram pump I designed (Model ET-4) and installed in Barangay Pili, Sariaya, Quezon province, about 3 hours south of Manila, a project of Cong. Proceso Alcala (2nd District) for the Pili farmers, specifically to provide irrigation water for vegetable production during the summer months when rain-fed farms traditionally go unproductive due to lack of water.

The drive head is 4 meters, delivery head 30 meters, test output is 19,000 plus liters per day, on a short impulse valve stroke. The supply line is still being finished up during this test, and when the hydram gets fed with upwards of 200 liters per minute and a longer stroke (larger impulse valve opening) is used, the ram will be able to lift around 50,000 liters per day.

  • Thanks for the comments. Yes, the strokes are faster than what I like and normally set for my rams which is same as you around 1 beat per second. The reason is the supply line is not yet fully done so I set it to shorter strokes so as not to use up the water in the drive tank. Once fixed I estimate the output to double. It will be set to 1 beat per second.

  • Drive pipe diameter ??

  • CONVINCING AND I WANT TO MAKE ONE HERE IN COTABATO

  • What would happen if you stuffed the little hole?

  • I love it! It sounds like an old lister engine too. How much travel is in that valve? I wonder if you could hook that up to a small driveshaft and flywheel to (a) regulate the timing and (b) generate a few volts?

  • great! good, you have this in Sariaya. Im planning to visit the one in Negros. How much is the cost for this, Sir? thnks for d reply.

  • how did you know to make this hydraulic ram pump, i hope i can do it also in my home town in Masbate, but i dont have much knowledge how to make it,, is there any secret for doing it,, or maybe you can tell me some idea how to make it.

  • I will like to know the altitude you reach with it. this is an amazing but not to well know machine, thanks!

  • That is one heck of a nice looking set up you have there. Very good. Yes if you slow the stroke a bit you will definitly get even more water.

But it looks like it is doing pretty good even with such a short stroke. The strokes on my 2 inch ram are about a second apart and that looks like it is the maximum for my set up. I am amazed at the flow you are getting with such a short stroke.....wow. You have an excellent design I think.
