It's not a question to see, it's more about feel.

Anyhow, yes, it's difficult "understand" the music of Tom Waits, anacronic sometimes, eclectic in others.

I love him even if he have some songs I don't enjoy.

I know this guy has a pretty good following, but dam, I just dont see it. I guess its not quite like anything else, so at least thats something. Oh well, good for him I guess.

When I saw Hellboy I thought the exact same thing... I looked it up and it was Ron Pearlman playing Hellboy. Anyway, love Tom, love whiskey, love his music.

There is no music like Tom's. He's unique.
Nonetheless, something else that is good and to which you could link it is the great Captain Beefheart.
And of course, the real blues ; Howlin' Wolf, Otis Rush, Albert King, Muddy Waters...
