In the Bible, they're referred to as "boys" or "youths." Since a man became such at the age of thirteen, then these were prepubescent kids. And, no, it doesn't say they "ate" them:
Then two bears came out of the woods and mauled forty-two of the boys.
But, hey, a good mauling isn't that bad, right?

Hm? God sent two she-bears to "eat" 42 "little children"? I can't find a single translation that talks about the bears eating them, never mind that the 42 of them, by common sense, couldn't have been "little children". Oy vey.

i was speaking to my dad about this, and he started saying "even though it says children, it was more probably mature young men"...and i was dumbfounded....he was missing the point entirely! like it makes one iota of difference what age they were. really frustrates me.

classic take!! lol
Epaminodas:
Thanks for the kind comment on my video. 2 Kings 2:23-34 strikes me as one of the strangest passages in all the Bible. I couldn't resist making a video about it.
