One of JAZZ'S all-time great classis. AHMAD and his TRIO takes this song to heights never before scaled. With an instrumentation of only (3) ---sounding like an entire orchestra--- they use a rhythmic sassiness with flawless timing, to take us on a muscical quest that tap-dances amongst the "CELESTIAL BODIES", while soaring on wings of angels. After taking flight, you'll never won't to come down.-----!!!!!!ALL PRAISES to the MOST HIGH!!!!!!-----for blessing us with such talents.!!!!!!!!

It was the night of my Prom. Following the prom my date and I went to Alhambra on Wabash Avenue ( the club of Ahmad Jamal ). Alcohol was not served, but we were too young anyway. The walls were covered with mirrors and he played this tune. I shall never forget that performance!

The very first jazz piece I ever heard way back as a teenager...have been hooked ever since! This cut of Poinciana is the best...just brilliant!

Remzyride your comment is sweet. Are we here listening to the start - day one - of Afro jazz fusion other than that of Mr John Birks Gillespie? This tune makes Roy Ayers Everybody Loves The Sunshine and so much other cool music possible. And this cat is still out there killing. Him and Golson - and who else?

Krs-One "Stop Frontin`" . As sampled by Kid Kapri. Nice piece.

Seven minutes of pure heaven as my Dad always said of this song (LP version in 7:35) and I could not agree more. I love my Metal and Classic Rock but do not take away my Ahmad Jamal.
Thanks for this post.

I recently saw Ahmad Jamal for the first time, and I went with my friend who's a jazz student. At the end of the performance, the entire audience stands up and applauds for 5 minutes straight. During those 5 minutes, I turn to my friend with an incredulous look on my face and he says "my life just changed." I laugh and then he stops me and says, "no man, I'm serious."
