U.S. Army Pfc. Alex Knapp was seriously injured March 14 while driving a lead vehicle in a convoy outside Baghdad.
An improvised explosive device detonated and hit his vehicle, leaving him in critical condition and seriously injuring three others.
Knapp's injuries were so severe, he was forced to undergo amputations of both his legs above the knee.
It was his bravery that caught the attention of numerous individuals, including the Oakland County Sheriff's Office where he had served in the department's Explorer program.
