The adhesive used by label manufacturers can be extremely difficult to remove. Here is a demonstration of a product that is widely available for removing labels and sticky residue by http://www.ultimatehandyman.co.uk/

I have used this label remover to use glue residue, which would not be removed by using WD40 or Methylated spirits.

Never heard of it, but I'll look out for it and try it next time ;-)

  • That was worthless. Use soapy water for that or paint thinner

    Don't talk rubbish.

I have come across label adhesive that will not come off using methylated spirits, never mind soapy water. Pain thinner will probably damage most surfaces- hence they make Label remover which many people are not aware of!

    Your comment is worthless ;-)

  • Well done

  • Did'nt seem that effective , but I may try it, but for me soaking it with water ,steaming - for the sticky stuff under the paper -wd40 ,turps, thinners -stanley blade and what worked quickly was petrol -very smelly :-)

I'm afraid it does not work as well. One of the machines nip rollers where I work used to get regularly covered in sticky adhesive and we tried cleaning it with WD 40 and methylated spirits, neither of which worked.

When you get a really sticky label this stuff makes your job much easier!

It should be, but you should so a test on a small inconspicuous area first.

  • On glass, you need nothing other than heat and a razor or stanley blade. Adhesive remover is really useful for porous or bumpy surfaces. This chap was just using the oven label as an example; there is no way hot soapy water would remove this type of glue from anything other surface than glass.

I tried WD40 on some labels and it did not work, I have also tried meths but that was not good either. I guess it depends on the formulation of the glue that is used in the first place.
