The car, running awfully. I'm hoping someone can help me troubleshoot from this!

  • That was actually right after I'd cleaned the intake manifold and egr valve. As explained before, the anti-shudder valve was actually the problem, I'd knocked it loose when I was doing the other work. It doesn't really matter anymore, we don't have the beetle anymore. The piece of trash 01m transmission went out and there is no good, cheap solution to that problem.

  • It was actually the anti-shudder valve. It would seem that IF you can get it to start with that not functioning...it will run like ass.

  • there are NO SPARK PLUGS IN A DIESEL ENGINE

  • well there is no way it is 1. Because diesel does not have spark plugs.Diesel combusts itself with compression. I'm going to say that you may have a compression problem.

  • but if im wrong about the glow plug thing let me know, im looking to either put a small diesel in my ranger or im gonna break down and buy me either a newer beetle or a golf with a diesel and 5spd. so if they have glow plugs someone let me know, thanks and god bless!

  • @zech007 if it was the glow plugs it would just have a hard time starting, hell i didnt know they still put glow plugs in diesels anymore. i worked on semi's for 4 years and they dont put glow plugs in them anymore. but i guess car diesels are a little different, they have alot more bullshit on them than semi's do.

    anti shudder valve? wtf?

  • @thamoja

    How I feel about you.

1.Diesel engines dont use spark plugs, they fire by compression

    2. You probably shouldnt comment on engine trouble shooting videos, due to your lack in Automotive technology

  • poor little beetle :(

  • You may want to have your intake manifold and egr valve cleaned out. These TDI engines require that service about every 50K-100K miles. Also replace your fuel filter and maybe get a new MAF sensor. If you do this work your self it will cost you about $150.00 for the parts and stuff.

  • Bad glow plugs.

  • thanks I will try that...I might pull off the intake and clean it..
