No women were included in the negotiating team which led to the 1921 Treaty. They were considered too extremist by DeValera. Cumann na mBan was strongly against the Treaty. As the Civil War broke out many women fought on the Republican side and were imprisoned by the Free Staters. Mary McSwiney went on hunger strike and was joined by her sister on the outside. As the Civil War ended many found they had no option but to emigrate.

  • yea these hero of irland

baloch also fighting for freedom of balochistan

  • Respect to those ladies of Ireland !

  • What an amazing video.Such strong women. As for De Valera, well he was all about himself in my opinion. He wanted power for himself at all costs. What a cost ! His greed for power led to the death of a magnificent Irishman in Michael Collins.God rest your soul Mick

  • Dev was a shite. He used those he needed to use, and then after he got what he wanted he acted in Quisling fasion. He could have gone to pound out the treaty himself, but didn't, he sent a soldier instead (Collins) thereby signing Collins death warrant when he was out manuvered by the Brits. The women of Ireland have always done the hard work without asking for recoginition. God Bless Irish women.

  • de'Valera was a fuck!!! Traiotor!!!

  • Such Bravery can never be forgotten, and, never should be forgotten.

  • Never forsake these Patriot woman.

Without them then and now were would we be?

Politics maybe has changed in the last 15 to 20 years but without woman in struggle we would have been nothing.
