I would like to add this: the "Te Deum" being almost the most ancient Christian prayer there is, to me - as a confessing Christian - the Von Karajan is an experience of prayer. The Jochum version is technically great, but spiritually empty.

I donot quite agree. Not only is the choir of incomparably higher quality and finesse than in the J. recording, it is quite simply that Von K. has chosen a rather slow, sometimes almost "Lento" approach. Which may not quite agree with the contemporary taste. The only true criticism, as compared to the J. version: the brass section is rather bland. C/ the horn echo after "...martyrum laudabilis numerus...", longingly repeating the notes on "numerus". With J. it is a brazen call of passion.

Too slow, too soft, supar choir. Doesn't hold a candle to the Jochum recording.

I had this on video tape many years ago - and then one day it got gobbled up in the machine. It's great to see it again. The tape also had Bruckner's 9th and I remember Karajan conducting the whole work with his eyes closed. Thanks for posting this beautiful piece.
