This is our beloved welsh pony Chico, who we have had since he was a baby. Scotty and Chico have grown up together building a bond that will never be forgotten.

Scotty requested a day to do whatever he wanted before Chico left for his new home. His first request was to have lunch on him bareback...I couldn't watch as I was busy in the house charging the video camera battery, but apparently Chico wasn't crazy about the crinkling lunch bag when Scotty climbed aboard. By the looks of Scotty's purple and peanut mustache, the lunch had been eaten.

Next, we moved into the ring where Scotty was fooling around without tack. He rode him all over the farm without a saddle or bridle. As each minute passed, he seemed to become braver and more daring. WITHOUT permission, he approached the oxer (3 foot spread)from a trot...It's hard to see exactly where he's going when you're taping. Looking back, I suppose his fetal posture should have indicated that he was up to something. I thought of removing it from the video, because it seemed to interrupt the flow...(somewhat of a hiccup to the beauty of the duo) But taking chances together is precisely what Chico and Scotty were all about. Sometimes things didn't go exactly to plan. (life can be that way)

But most of the time, the team took my breath away and warmed my heart. Scotty and Chico's beach gallop, March 3, 2007, was Scotty's final request.

He swears "no hands" was Chico's idea.

Regardless, the pair had yet another day together they'll never forget. Scotty and Chico shared such a special life together, constantly learning about themselves and each other. (nothing short of every mother's dream)

"Everything I ever needed to know, I learned from my pony (Chico)"

  • One very lucky little girl and her younger sister very happy that we were willing to share Chico with them. He will be able to touch the hearts of other children who share the same love ....and when he is too old to be ridden, he is to return to us here at Fox Hill Farm to live out his Golden Years.

  • Although it can be emotionally challenging to let go....training is how we make a living. It's obvious, however, that this isn't just "work" for us...we love them too.

  • aww, what a great partnership. Chico is the pony every mother dreams of getting for the kids to learn on. Chico clones would sell like hot potatoes...hehe

I'd say Scotty's riding improved faster than most kids because of the bond he had with Chico and he should excel from here on..

    Great stuff..

  • Scotty broke Chico when Chico was 3 and Scotty was 5. Scotty learned how to ride through just about everything on that pony. I wish I had taped his "rogue" moments. By the time he was perfectly made, (and Scotty outgrew him), we sold him to a wonderful little girl to enjoy.

  • That was truely

Amazing and so beautiful to watch..

l will keep it as one of my Favorites.

Scotty you are a very good Horse Rider.

And Chico is a beautiful horse.

  • Thank you. He is a very special pony and the memories he gave us are right out of a dream. I am really happy that everyone has enjoyed watching this...it's our way of sharing him with everyone. We feel incredibly fortunate to have had him. We never took one day with him for granted as we knew from the day we bought him, that he was a pony of a lifetime.

  • I do not understand how you can sell a member of your family. I am sure Chico is confused...

  • I don't understand...who outgrew who? If the boy loves the pony, why would you make him part with Chico?

  • what a fantastic team and what a great bond do they have!

but don't understand why he was sold..

i would never let it happen..

  • I love this video so much, its so amazing! :,)

  • @hunthorse Thank you! I cried through the entire thing. The smile on your sons face, the love those two shared. He will always remember his beloved pony. You can't buy what I just watched in this video. I'm disappointed in those that are flaming you for deciding to sell Chico to another little girl or boy that will have the same beautiful moments. This owner does not appear to be someone that wouldn't choose what is best for a family member. God bless Chico and your family! Saddlegirl

  • @AnimalAidz Because Chico will enjoy life better when he gets to work and do things rather than rot away in a pasture, feeling forgotten when noone can ride him.

(perhaps they could drive him instead, but that's not always an option either)

Plus, he'll get back when he is old enough to not work anymore.

  • Very nice to see, both the bond, the bitless and bridleless riding and not the least that the kid wears a helmet! Nothing ruins a good picture as a kid riding without a helmet ''because they trust each other''. Very good to watch! :) Thanks for sharing.

  • SUPERBE GÉNIAL EXTRA J'ADORE <3<3<3<3

  • I WANT HIM! omg adorable <3

  • Poor little pony - how horrible for him to leave the only home he has ever known and the boy he loves ... money isn't everything :(
