Visual simulation of High Speed Sync. As the first curtain moves across the sensor, the second curtain immediately follows the first and creates a slit moving across the sensor exposing it to light. As this slit moves across the sensor a flash in FP (focal plane) or HSS (high speed sync) mode rapidly pulses to expose sensor. This rapid pulse acts like a continuous light source as slit moves across sensor. The trade off is HSS or FB mode greatly reduces flash power by 1/2 to 1/16.
