Medieval Danse Royale

An anonymous 13th century French 'Danse Royale' or 'Danse Real' played on a copy of a medieval Guitarra Latina (Latin Guitar). Both the instrument and the tune date from about 1260.

The instrument is based on the one shown in an illustration in the manuscript of the Cantigas de Santa Maria (shown at the start of the film), a Spanish manuscript from 1260, and it was made by Marcelo García Morillo. It is tuned d a d a and has tied nylon frets.

The film was shot at Burlingham, Near Pershore, Worcestershire, England.

Tuning is DADA. 4 corses - single strings (4 in total) - metal strung. Normally played with a pick not fingers (a pick would nornally have been a feather quill).
