RANCHO CUCAMONGA - Pomona resident Cynthia Marisol Diaz, 21, died Sunday from injuries sustained in a car crash.
Diaz was in the back seat of a 2005 Dodge Neon when its driver lost control about 1:15 a.m. while driving west on Foothill Boulevard, striking a roadside pole near the intersection of Malachite Avenue, San Bernardino County sheriff's Sgt. Jeff Notaro said.
The driver, , 24, of Rancho Cucamonga and passenger , 22, of Pomona were treated for minor injuries at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton and released.
Driver told investigators he was driving in the left lane when he was cut off by another car. driver said he tried to pass the car on the left, not realizing there was a center median.
After noticing the median, driver told police he took a sharp right turn, crossing all westbound lanes and hopping the curb, where he struck the pole.
Diaz suffered injuries to her head and neck. She was transported to San Antonio Community Hospital in Upland, where she was pronounced dead less than an hour after the accident.
Notaro said Sunday morning that police were waiting for toxicology tests to determine whether driver was driving drunk.

i'm soo sorry for your loss. I am part of the Sheriffs Department and was working the Rancho Cucamonga channel when we got the call in about the crash. You are all in my prayers.

I am very sorry about the loss of this very beautiful girl. I felt like crying when I saw the baby pics at first. Did the guy driving the car end up being drunk?
