why are 100000 meters less muscular compared to 100 meters??

@gambit33ify You don't want to carry all that extra muscular mass when running long distances: you get more easily tired. Muscular people have the fast twitch fibers/ power required to for the short period of time of the race; long distance runners go the opposite way...

55.22 actually: that's his last 440 yard split (equating to around 54.6-54.9 for 400 meters). But otherwise, you're absolutely right: William Tanui and Robert Kibet deserve a lot of credit for this outstanding pacemaking job.

The mile is not a metric unit of measurement: it is 1760 yards, which equates to about 1609 meters. The runners start on a line that is 9 meters away from the finish line.

i know how far a mile is thanks chief, which is why i dont understand how they can have a 440 yeard split as that is about 402.25 metres from the start

Why is it so difficult to understand? At points 1/4 of the way each between the mile start and the finish line they take the split. If you claim to know how far a mile is (or what it is), why are you asking why they use yards?
