I saw this movie when I was 14. I am Portuguese and I had to watch it in history class to discuss our vast colonial empire in the 1600's and 1700's and to understand the way Marques de Pombal wanted to take Jesuit socialism out of the colonies and control trade. Who have thought that the Jesuit order with their indredibly advanced philosophies was already using socialism and having natives sharing the results of their labour within the missions. Almost 400 year ahead of Lenin and Stalin...

On religion, this sounds more beautiful at christmas, maybe just because they play it on classic fm at this time of year. I think classical music does make us think more, about love, life, spirituality.
It takes me to a better place and a much better place than vikingoat is at....

Why must people bring up "God" every single time they hear classical music. Yes, it's beautiful, but that has NOTHING to do with religion.

Hello aweha

People aren't hearing "classical music" (MORRICONE called it "post-Renaissance music") ~ they are hearing "God", that's why.

No! ~ God has NOTHING to do with religion. But Maestro Morricone was, after all, writing for a film (based on real events) about Jesuit priests caught in a power struggle.

'On Earth As It Is In Heaven' is from the prayer of YEHOSHUAH

THE COMPOSER HIMSELF says God helps him ~ and might He not know?
