From 1939, Carroll Gibbons and his Savoy Orpheans, featuring Anne Lenner on vocals.
Carroll first heard Anne's voice when he caught her performance at Murray's Club, Beak Street in Soho in 1934. Carroll asked Shirley if she would like to do some singing for him for an upcoming Radio Luxembourg broadcast.
The broadcast was very successful and led to Anne becoming a resident vocalist - despite opposition from the Savoy management, who didnt like the idea of a female vocalist - at the famous London hotel after which Carroll named his celebrated band. She remained at the Savoy for the next 7 years.
She also became known to millions as the voice of 'Auntie Anne' in the Ovaltiney's radio show.
