December 31, 1987 fell on a Thursday. New Year's Day in 1988 fell on a Friday; CBS pre-empted the game shows and soaps for the Cotton Bowl Parade at 10:00 AM ET, the Tournament Of Roses Parade at 11:00 AM ET and the Cotton Bowl football game (Notre Dame vs. Texas A&M) at 1:30 PM ET.

@Fartingbellybutton - only to get canned again on July 1, 1988 and replaced this time by Family Feud w/ Ray Combs on the 4th of July, 1988.
