I remember reading in the 90s that people were pushing to make it legal to walk across this bridge, but the ferry company opposed it due to possible lost revenue. I had always thought a pedestrian bridge should be built going from the park to Ellis, and another one from the park to the statue, but then began to look at it from the ferry company's point of view.
