2010 0412 19:55 El Morro: Brendan Begley plays "O'Donnell's Lament" in the O'Donnell Room

Our guide brought us to the O'Donnell room, which contains a model of the lighthouse and some historical artifacts about O'Donnell. We had asked for permission to perform music at the fort, but because of a bureaucratic oversight the commander was not consulted in time. Irish rebel Brendan Begley bravely decided to have a go anyway, as his grandfather was an O'Donnell! He gave us a beautiful rendition of "O'Donnell's Lament" on the accordion, which proved so moving that Havana native and cultural promoter Ilemis Roca was in tears at the end. Lynda Henry, Maureen Keating, Marcel Nazabal (former director with the festival), Bréanainn Begley, Reydis Delgado Conte and some other friends are in the clip.
