Pruning Christmas trees with a SAJE

Hollow Creek Tree Farm in Gilbert, SC got its first SAJE pruner in 1986. Here, owner Mike is pruning Leyland Cypress & White Pines that will be ready for sale Christmas season 2011. Hershey is our old farm dog, a Lab/Pointer mix that loves pruning season. The firing of the small engine sparks her hunting instincts and brings out the puppy in her.

One thing to note is that the manufacturer of the SAJE would surely NOT recommend reaching into a tree as we do when pruning. BUT, we are very careful and deliberate when doing it: always stopping, always keeping our hands well away from the blade and always bringing the limb TO the blade rather than the blade to the limb. The SAJE is a seriously dangerous machine and constant caution should be used.
