Fake fight? If you are referring to the demonstrations presented on this video, you are correct that the film does not depict a "real" fight in that none of the participants are seeking to injure one another. Rather, the participants seek to demonstrate their art for us, and the techniques and drills they demonstrate are just that---drills and movements one may practice to improve his technique. By analogy, playing catch or batting practice is not a competitve game of baseball, just practice.

@NTNGUYEN the fight was not about that

@HitMann1 Tohei Sensei didn't develop Shin Shin Toitsu after O-sensei. He only gave it a name after O-sensei had passed away and the split from Hombu Dojo. When he was teaching at Hombu dojo, he was already teaching "shin shin toitsu" although it was only known as Aikido at that time. It was also because of this that he had gotten in a dispute with Kisshomaru Ueshiba Sensei about his teaching methods.

Love this video. Thank you for posting.

It sounds like the original English translation audio, garbled by the poor condition of the tape.
I would love to have the original Japanese audio. If you know where it can be found, please send me a message/.

At the time of this production Tohei was the head instructor at the Honbu dojo. He was awarded his 9th Dan by O-sensei and later his 10th Dan, becoming the only 10th Dan awarded by O-Sensei. This is not an interpretation of Aikikai Aikido, at this time Tohei embodied Aikikai, and was honored in rank and position because he had the greatest insight into O-Sensei's teachings. The Aikikai later evolved, changed, and neglected a lot of the internal teachings.

@HitMann1 The methods that Koichi Sensei taught in this video, however, are based on Koichi's Sensei personal interpretation of the Aikikai's Aikido and are alot different. He didn't call his Aikido interpretation Ki-Aikido until O Sensei's death, but really it has always been different than other Sensei's of the Aikikai's School due to experience with japanese yoga. Ki-Aikido may have very similar techniques from AikiKai, but we have more emphasis on relaxation, one point, and ki development.
This is not Ki-Aikido Material, just plain Aikido, Koichi Tohei sensei developed Shin Shin Toitsu Aikido after the death of O-sensei Morihei Ueshiba. The departure from the Ueshiba family occured after the death of O-sensei but as you can see Kisshomaru Ueshiba (O-sensei's Son) compiled this video (see 01:27). This is an Aikikai Aikido video, all of the presented techniques and exercises are still practiced by Aikikai Hombu Dojo instructors and recognised Dojo's(by Hombu Dojo) all over the world
