We called a fellow beekeeper seeking a solution to our queenless, broodless colony of Minnesotas. Turns out he was manning the swarm line, He said he'd gotten a call about a swarm not far from the farm, but had not been able to connect with anyone on the swarm list, would we like to go capture it? Without thinking about the fact that we'd never even been along when a swarm had been captured, much less gone out on our own to do so, we said yes. Within 15 minutes we were on our way, reading Beekeeping for Dummies as we drove toward our next adventure. We now have a queen. And a whole lot of workers, for we combined the swarm with our Minnesotas. In a week, when we open up the hive again, we'll learn how well we did on that score, another first for us.
