SMRPG Low Level Challenge (1/3)

First off, apologies to those who might watch me for my RPGM Videos.

For RPG Veterins, Super Mario RPG is one of the easiest RPGs out there. For myself, on a normal playthrough, I reach the final boss at L24-26. At that level, I just win using the boring attack-attack-heal method. Mario RPG was my first RPG, and the game was really fun and rather difficult for me the first few times through. But it became too easy, and lost its fun, which is why I took this challenge. I wanted to beat the game at the lowest level I could. I did this by avoiding almost all normal enemy encounters (save those that offered rewards, and I did grab a couple stars). Upon level-ups, I often (if not always) chose the special bonus, as magic attacks can get pretty powerful in the game and you can't shield yourself against them like normal attacks.

No emulators or cheating devices were used in the completion of this challenge. Aside from splitting into three parts because YT wouldn't allow upload of a 26-minute long video, this video is entirely unedited (that's my VCR's boot-up at the start; I wired my video through it).

I didn't spend much time showing my stats/items in the menu. If you want to take a good look at them, just pause the video. Yes, I do have powerful equipment. This challenge had nothing to do with equipment. I just wanted to beat the game at a low level.

Winning this challenge required a bit of luck. If Smithy ever followed the Shyper's Sword Rain with his Meteor Swarm, or if Wizard Head Smithy ever did two spells in a row, I'd be skrewed. In fact, you can see me struggle at a few points of the final battle.

It also required strategy. Geno's Geno Boost and Toadstool's healing spells were a necessity. I needed to take out the Shyper in a hurry, or else damage would quickly add up when the next one arrives. Tank Smithy counter-attacks, so I had Geno use magic. Wizard Smithy has no defense but powerful spells. Treasure Chest Smithy was nothing to worry about because of my equipment. Fish Tank (?) Smithy had the ridiculous defense, defense-destroying Shredder, and healing spells.

That's with an emulator, though. You can't even reach the end of the game at that level without an emulator or cheating device, because the bosses in the game give experience.

well good job on completing it, but yes this game is possible at level 3 without cheating :O

Sadly, I have not fniished my level 3 challenge, but have most parts uploaded. Upon reaching and completing the third boss, you will be level 3. At which time u can get the item to get normal, double, or zero exp from a battle.

i have up till somewhere around the pirate ship cause i got lazy killing bosses over and over till i lose the game XD

I wasn't aware of such an item appearing, least not that early in the game. I recall an item that can be bought in Moleville that eventually allows for the "Lucky" mini-game, but that doesn't become available until after the seventh boss.

after moleville buy the lucky jewel

it will disappear after a few uses

you need the lucky hammer (from seaside town place) after you get the red star

Hm. Well from what I remember u got it after the mole ville boss. It's called lucky jewel, you just have to use it in battle for it to work. I don't know if u can buy it later, I havne't gotten it recently

I just found out that theres a smrpg save state editor which lets you change the char. items, weapons, even stats to whatever you want. I used it for ZSNES I dont know if it works with 9x.
