5/1/08...I was driving down I44 in Oklahoma, videotaping the sunset and in less than 5 minutes a tornado showed up. Later I watched the news and found out that this tornado was a mile wide. The end.

  • Yes, gorgeous supercell with mesocyclone. Next time you see such a setup, I recommend that you pull over safely in a place where you can see underneath the cell...and just wait it out with a vid camera. Leave yourself room at your vantage point to allow for filming the storm as it moves along. I've chased for 25yrs. I know in Okla. it's damn tough to see stuff from about OK City eastward. Most chasers won't chase there because of the frustrating, lousy tree-blocking views.

    Nice catch, sir!

  • Thanks for the tip.

  • WOAH! what a mesocyclone!

  • I'm glad you're not dead. Next time, pull over and lay in a ditch!
