A couple of days ago I downloaded a Blender 259.1 binary which included the work-in-progress Cycles render engine. I was amazed, to say the least. It can use the GPU on recent graphics card to render, and that way, it's super fast. You can even set one of your viewports to show a dynamic rendered result of your scene. The results also look way better than with the old ray-tracing engine; light is simulated in a much more realistic manner. Just look up some videos of it, it's pretty awesome.

So I've been playing around with it for a while and decided to find out how a fluid simulation would look. I've simulated the fluid at a resolution of 256 which took a fairly long time. Then I tried different materials. I've rendered it once with a water-like material, but I couldn't make it look that amazing. I think, with a diffuse material like in the video, it looks the most interesting. I've also tried an emitting material (it glows), and that was pretty neat, too.

So there you go. Enjoy the video.

  • good, rendering times for frames?

  • @gius3pp3D Thanks! Sorry, I don't remember that anymore...I think I let it run for a day or so in total. One frame might have taken some seconds to a few minutes, maybe.

  • @Benedek93 thanks for the answer, I asked this because I'm rendering a turnaround of a cyborg 308000 polygons with a gts 450 video card and 20 minutes per frame! I can not find a tutorial on the settings for animations of cycles. maybe I'm doing something wrong:)

  • Nice, looks like white paint or something. :)
